Pro: Cardiac Anesthesiologists Should Be Responsible for Imaging During Structural Heart Procedures

      Structural heart disease (SHD) is an evolving field that is projected to grow at a rapid pace in the coming years. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) now has a well-established role across the entire surgical risk spectrum, and procedural volumes have increased significantly since 2014. The annual procedural volumes of mitral valve interventions, including transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) and transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), too, have grown nearly 10-fold in the United States since their adoption.
